Chief of Police

Chief Robert DeVries joined the Kingman Police Department in May of 2003 after serving over 25 years with the Holland, Michigan Police Department.

He obtained his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Muskegon Community College and a Bachelors Degree in Public Administration from Grand Valley State University. Additionally, he is a graduate of Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command and has started graduate studies in Public Administration. He has served as an instructor for Grand Valley State University and the National Community Policing Institute at Michigan State University.

Chief DeVries is the former Chairperson of the Michigan Information Officers Association and former President of the National Information Officers Association representing over 700 Public Information Officers throughout the United States and Canada.

Since arriving in Arizona, he has completed the Southwest Leadership Academy hosted by the University of Arizona and is a graduate of the Southwest Command College sponsored by the FBI Law Enforcement Executives Development Associates and the Leadership in Police Organization training program offered by Arizona POST..

Chief DeVries serves as the Chairperson for the Mohave Area General Narcotics Enforcement Team (MAGNET) and Past President of the Western Arizona Law Enforcement Association representing law enforcement agencies in Mohave, LaPaz and Yuma County. He is an active member of the Arizona Association of Chiefs of Police, serving as President in 2009.

Chief DeVries also serves as a member on the Arizona High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) board and the Management sub-committee. The HIDTA board provides oversight for over 11 million dollars in funding for the State of Arizona through the Office of National Drug Control Policy. Additionally, in 2008 he was appointed to serve on the United States Attorney Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee for the District of Arizona.

On behalf of the entire staff of the Kingman Police Department, I would like to welcome you to our official web site.

The City of Kingman is located in the high desert of Northwestern Arizona nestled between the Hualapai and Cerbat Mountain ranges. Our staff services a population of over 28,000 residents and patrols approximately 34 square miles in the city that includes Interstate 40 and the longest stretch of Historic Route 66 in Arizona.

The department is comprised of 57 sworn personnel and 15 civilian staff. Officers are assigned to patrol, traffic services, investigations, GIITEM (state wide gang task force), MAGNET (regional narcotics team) and serve as school resource officers. Civilian staff includes records management, neighborhood services, animal control and evidence technicians for the department.

The department is a strong proponent of Community Policing and has adopted the philosophy department wide. We encourage our officers and civilian staff to utilize innovative measures to accomplish long-term problem solving throughout our community. We are committed to working with every member of the community, resident or visitor, to ensure the City of Kingman continues to be a great place to live, work and play.
