The Development Services Department is the City department that has overall responsible for many aspects of physical development in the City. The Development
Services Department consists of a director, and two divisions. The divisions are as follows: Planning
& Zoning, and Building Safety.
The Planning and Zoning Division administers the Kingman General Plan, works with requests for amendments and updates to the General Plan. The General Plan is the guiding document for development decisions in the Kingman area. Planning and Zoning administers many ordinances and policies that support the objectives of the General Plan. These ordinances including the Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision Ordinance, Landscape Ordinance, various aspects of the Streets and Sidewalks Development Rules and Regulations, and the Minor Lot Split ordinance. Planning and Zoning also staffs the following Commissions: Planning Commission, Board of Adjustment, Economic and Tourism Development Commission, and Clean City Commission. The Planning and Zoning Department maintains and assists in implementing the General Plan. Planning also administers a wide variety of ordinance and codes, including the Zoning ordinance, Subdivision Ordinance, Landscaping and Sign Ordinances, minor lot split ordinance, various aspects of the Street and Sidewalks Development Rule and Regulations. In addition the Planning Department is a prime location for information on development and growth in the city of Kingman and the surrounding area. Primary charge is the implementation of the General Plan of the city of Kingman.
The Building Safety Division administers all construction codes, primarily the Uniform Building Code. Building Safety reviews building plans, issues building permits, performs inspections on all new construction, and enforces Codes for the safety of existing buildings.
