The Mohave Substance-Abuse, Treatment, Education, Prevention Partnership (MSTEPP) announces a significant accomplishment and an upcoming awareness event.

In 2016 only 34% of all prescription providers in Mohave County were enrolled in the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP). The lack of awareness and communication between prescribers enabled those abusing prescription medications the ability to “Doctor Shop” and obtain multiple doses of controlled substances. MSTEPP began a concerted effort to increase those enrolled in the program throughout the county. On September 1st the group was notified that Mohave County prescriber enrollment had reached 100%.

Having 100% of the providers enrolled helps to prevent individuals from obtaining prescriptions under false pretense and ensures adequate supplies for those utilizing controlled substances for legitimate medical reasons.

Additionally, MSTEPP announces the opportunity to attend the Opioid Symposium on October 6th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Mohave Community College – Kingman Campus. Residents will have the opportunity to learn about the challenges the community is facing and the efforts underway to increase awareness, prevention and treatment for those in need. The event is free to the public and a light breakfast and lunch will be provided compliments of Kingman Regional Medical Center. Registration is requested to ensure adequate supplies are available. Residents can register at www.evenbrite.com, type “FREE” and select Kingman, AZ.
