The City of Kingman’s Surveying Division had its beginning in August of 1982 and was the result of a study, commissioned by the City Council and executed by the “Cadastral Control Committee”.
The result was the identified need to maintain and upgrade the centerline control network within the city so that public rights-of-way and private ownership limits could be identified along with establishing needed control within the service area for the City’s water distribution system. Some of the duties of the Surveying Division include the following:
- Maintain the cadastral grid of section corners, and ¼ section corners so as to perpetuate private property rights along with the city’s properties.
- Establish and maintain a system of horizontal and vertical control on one unique datum to facilitate public works projects and large area utility improvements. The control is also a big asset to the public.
- Provide and maintain accurate maps of the public rights-of-ways and control surveys to facilitate the ultimate construction of a GIS for the city.
- Gather information by means of topographical surveys to be used for in-house design of City capital improvement projects.

The documents listed below provide information for all City established benchmarks. Benchmark information is provided in both the NGVD 29 and NAVD 88 data. All plans prepared within the City of Kingman Service Area shall be on the NGVD 29 datum.
To find information for a certain area, users must first open the Benchmark Map file, zoom to the area in question and obtain the benchmark number shown on the map. The benchmark number format denotes the class (order) of the benchmark as follows:
- 2nd Order – Example: 98-2-100
- 3rd Order – Example: 95-182
Once you know the benchmark order, you can open the appropriate document to look up the benchmark information. Note that the Industrial Park (Airport) and the Downtown Area have their own separate documents.
