The Fire Prevention Division is responsible for developing and delivering fire prevention and safety programs throughout the community. Programs cover fire safety from pre-school to elder care. CPR classes to interested citizen and community groups are given on a regular basis.

Code compliance inspections are performed on every commercial business and institutional occupancy a minimum of once a year, and up to 4 times a year on hazardous operations occupancies. A positive approach is taken so those responsible for these occupancies can be coached in doing their part for public safety. Plan reviews are conducted on all new construction of all occupancies to ensure they are built to the latest fire and building codes adopted by the City of Kingman. This activity pays dividends in less commercial fire loss per annum, and more importantly, less harm and loss of life to their occupants.

Fire cause investigations are performed on all fire incidents and environmental crime investigations are performed when hazardous spills occur or when information is received on suspicious activities. Having an active investigation program assists in defining fire cause problems, sometimes resulting in product recalls and makes possible offenders think twice, along with brining those that commit arson and environmental crimes to justice.

The Kingman Fire Department participates in the Mohave County Fire Investigation Task Force and the Northwest Arizona Environmental Crimes Task Force. During extensive and difficult case investigations, area agencies collectively participate to provide a positive outcome.
