The City of Kingman Wastewater Division currently employs 11 full-time positions. These employees manage, maintain, and operate Kingman’s wastewater treatment and collection systems. An on-call pump operator is available for after hours emergencies by calling 753-2191.

The Wastewater Division operates and maintains 198 miles of publicly owned sewer mains. The system includes 2,997 manholes. City crews are responsible for spraying manholes for roaches, unplugging sewer main stoppages, and minor inspections of sewer mains. The City employs a private contractor, on a semi-annual basis, to clean and inspect City sewer mains. As a matter of clarification, the City does not maintain the customer’s sewer lateral. The customer is responsible for the lateral up to the main and including the tap. Any problems on the customer’s side should be handled by a licensed contractor or plumber.

The City of Kingman operates (2) separate wastewater treatment and collection systems.

  • The downtown plant serves, of course, the downtown area. The downtown plant consists of a Membrane BioReactor for treatment of effluent prior to discharge. The plant treats about 300,000 gallons per day.
  • The hilltop collection system and treatment plant serves the rest of the City of Kingman. The hilltop treatment plant is an Oxidation Ditch. The plant treats about 1,650,000 gallons per day.
  • Both treatment plants are permitted by State and Federal agencies. Total sewer connections are 9,000. Both systems serve approximately 21,000 people.

The Wastewater Department management and personnel constantly strive to evaluate and upgrade our current wastewater system and implement the safest and most cost effective means of wastewater collection and treatment, while satisfying the needs of the community.

Our goals are to build upon the system with strict regard to costs in the effort to provide quality treatment and compliance with regulators and to provide our customers with professional service.

Our goal is to evaluate options for the most cost effective treatment methods that meet or exceed regulatory requirements.
