2020 Election Information

GENERAL INFORMATION

City elections include candidate elections and special purpose elections for issues such as recalls, referendums, initiatives, bonds, and general plan amendments. Candidate election dates are mandated by state law. Special purpose elections are held as necessary on certain dates of the year when not combined with a candidate election and the dates are also mandated by state law.

COUNCIL POSITIONS TO BE FILLED

The Mayor (2-year term) and three Council Member seats (4-year term) are open for election in 2020.  The current Mayor and Council Member terms that expire in 2020 are: Mayor Jen Miles and Councilors Travis Lingenfelter, Jamie Scott Stehly, and David Wayt.

CANDIDATE PACKETS & FILING DEADLINE

Candidate "packets" containing the forms and petitions that are required to run for Mayor or Council Member are available to pick up in the City Clerk's office now.  The forms contained in the packets are subject to change without notice, and prospective candidates are responsible for submitting the correct forms in order to run for a City office.   

Prospective candidates are encouraged to set an appointment to meet with the City Clerk to review the forms.  You may contact Annie Meredith CMC, City Clerk by calling 928-753-8335.

Candidate Nomination forms must be filed with the City Clerk at 310 N. 4th Street  Kingman, AZ  86401.  The earliest date prospective candidates may file their nomination forms is March 9, 2020, and the last day to file forms is April 6, 2020 by by 5:00 p.m.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

A candidate for local office must be a qualified elector at the time of filing their nomination paper.  Any such candidate, in addition to other requirements, must be 18 years of age or more on or before the election, have resided in the city limits for one year preceding the election, and restored civil rights if having been convicted of a felony.

If you receive contributions or make expenditures, in any combination, more than $500.00 in connection with a campaign for public office, the law states that a political committee must be created to serve as your campaign committee.  In this case, a Candidate Committee Statement of Organization must be filed within ten days of receiving such contributions or making such expenditures.  If any information contained on the statement of organization changes, it must be amended within ten days of the change of information.

Our office hours are Monday through Thursday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Individuals wishing to obtain a candidate packet can do so by making an appointment with the City Clerk's office during these hours.

The City of Kingman will hold a Primary Election on August 4, 2020, for the purpose of electing one (1) Mayor and three (3) Councilmembers to serve on the Kingman City Council. 

One (1) candidate for Mayor and five (5) candidates for City Councilmember have submitted the required documentation to have their names printed on the City of Kingman August 4, 2020, Primary Election ballot:
